Used the Adele video for ideas for interesting shots and shots to make the character look vulnerable.

Used the Ellie Goulding and Afterglo video to look at different ways to portray a relationship through camera work.

Also looked at the Bad Blood video to find ideas on how to portray a strong female character who is in power.

Group: Progression of Video

Re-watching our video has shown us that we are missing some technical excellence so through research into other videos we have liked we have developed more ideas to make our video show a deeper meaning.
To accomplish this we are adding things to our video:
  • Rewind scene at the end- all the narrative events of the video will rewind very quickly at the end of the video to show the male character's regret of the events and his wish that they never happened. We got the idea of the rewind from the Breezeblocks (Alt-J) video, and we got the idea of doing at then end with all the events of the video from a previous years work.
  • We will accomplish this rewind technique by exporting purely the narrative part of the timeline and then adding it back on to the main timeline and using the time-lapse tool to make it backwards and speeding it up.
  • We also liked the idea of the use of words that is seen in the work of a previous year. We think words could tie the video together and give it a deeper meaning as well as showing the audience more clearly what is happening.
  • We would like to use words in this video that create binary oppositions but also show what is happening in the narrative and the feelings behind it. We would like to use words such as 'meeting' 'fall' 'love' 'struck' 'risk' 'games' 'truth' 'lies'. I also think the last word shown should be 'regret' after we have had the rewind sequence of events to show his final feelings about the events.

Group: Filming Plans

  • We are filming on the 1st December during school time where we are shooting a new line of action in the Drama Studio
  • We plan to shoot close ups of our protagonist as their emotions change throughout the video, we will intercut this with our timeline to help give a closer connection to the characters

Shots:

  • Close ups of Frankie laughing, putting on lipstick, looking towards the camera
  • Close ups of Doug looking in love, uncomfortable, worried
  • 360 pans of them being close
  • Close ups of them together talking, laughing and playing
  • Over the shoulder shots of them interacting with each other
  • Pan up of Frankie from Doug's perspective
  • Frankie lip syncing the chorus

JP: Shoot Reflection 3

Our third shoot took place on Sunday 22cd November 2015, we were filming at the café Lo-Gi

What went well:

  • We had permission from security to film so we did not face the issues we faced last time, this meant we could successfully film all of the shots at the café
  • We filmed a variation of shot distances and angles to help make interesting continuity cuts

Challenges:

  • One of our actors was not feeling very well so we had to stop filming earlier than expected however we managed to film everything we needed in time
  • Also it was very windy which affected a few shots however there was nothing we could do but keep re-filming until they came out right

Group: Editing Progress

  • We have edited all of the footage that we have shot, there is one minute remaining to film which is the second line of action.
  • In the recent lessons we have been cutting our footage and putting the new clips onto the timeline, in places the cutting rate can be increased especially after the new line of action has been filmed as we can intercut between them
  • We added the ghost effect to the scenes of our protagonists drinking to help imply the feeling of being drunk, originally we had this in multiple drinking scenes however we disliked this and only included it during the scenes of them moving after drinking

RD: Shoot 3 Reflection

Overview
On our third shoot we managed to shoot all of the cafe scenes that needed to be shot and they came out very successfully.

Strengths

  • We got permission to shoot in the cafe and completed everything that we had aimed to complete.
  • We got a variation of shots and shot angles from the cafe which makes the footage more interesting and exciting.
  • This whole scene is now completed.
Challenges and Solutions
  • This shoot was challenging because it was very weather dependent as we needed to shoot it while it was still light.
  • This scene needed to be interesting so it was a challenge to keep it interesting while the characters are just sitting in a cafe.

Group: Progression of Print Work

The original Image we took for our Magazine advert is on the left and the image on the right is the final version of the photo we will use for our magazine advert. We did multiple thing to the photo on Photoshop to change it to the second image:
  • First of all we wanted to edit the colour of the photo, as we wanted it to appear wintery but also slightly lighter as it appeared quite dark to begin with. We used curves twice to firstly bring up the light in the picture slightly and then we used it again to bring down the red in the picture to give it a more blue wintery effect.
  • We then decided we wanted the focus of the photo to be on the subjects so we cut the characters out and then used Gaussian Blur to make the back ground out of focus, this also means the shop signs are not a distraction in the image and the subjects are in sharp focus compared to the rest of the image.
  • We also really liked the lights in this photo so we used a white pen to bring these out and emphasise them compared to the blurred background.
  • Finally we stretched the bottom and the top of the image to be the correct size for a digipak, however we have now decided to use this image for our magazine advert, so we will need to resize it.
To Do
  • Resize the image so it is the correct size for a magazine advert.
  • Add text to the photo to make it a magazine advert, and make it sutible for the magazine it will be shown in.

Group: Concept Development

We had a discussion with a teacher yesterday which has helped progress our video idea so it will be more interesting when it is finished.
Here are the main points:
  • We have decided to add a second line of action to our video, this will be in the drama studio and it will be a very raw and emotional line to represent the feelings of the characters in relation to what is happening in the video. So when the characters are doing misdeeds we will see the female characters enjoyment and amusement, while we will see the male character as uncomfortable about the situation but also his growing affection for the girl.
  • This second line of action will be intercut with the narrative to add more interest to the video and allow the audience to feel more connected with the characters.
  • We will film this in the drama studio with the two actors, they will be in plain clothes and on a black background with a single spotlight on them. This line of action will also be in black and white throughout so there is a clear distinction between this and the narrative.

Group: Final Font

We have decided on the Font we will be using for the video, it will also be the font used in the spray paint scene when he writes 'closer' on the wall. This final font is called FRESH MARKER. We like the graffiti style of it and we think it will look effective for our video.

Group: Shoot Plan

Things left to shoot:
  • Spray paint scene, only Doug needed. Film pans and POVs of Doug and just an arm throwing him a can. -27/11/2015PM
  • Film Dug getting on a bus. -27/11/2015AM
  • Doug cleaning off spray painting. -27/11/2015PM
  • Doug paying the café. -27/11/2015AM
